Primarily the Erasmus Mundus project ELECTRA has been launched to enhance the institutional capacity of its partner universities in international research, educational cooperation and innovation. It specifically aims at developing policies and activities driving and fostering a structured transnational academic collaboration in the fields of environment, energy and sustainable development.

Within this frame ELECTRA aims at promoting the mobility of students, researchers, academic and administrative staff at all levels (BA/MA/MSc/Mtech, Ph.D./Dr., Post Docs). ELECTRA offers study programme exchange, research collaboration and work placement opportunities focussing on  issues of sustainability, energy and the environmen (including e.g. biodiversity, resource efficiency,  information management and ecological settings and their societal and economic impacts).

ELECTRA`s specific objectives include:

1. To set up an institution-based and sustainable Europe-ENPI mobility network focussing on  regional thematic needs

2. To train more than 120 researchers and administrators

3. To provide improved education and training opportunities for vulnerable groups and socio-economically disadvantaged students and scholars

4. To foster the teaching and research capacity at the partner universities specially in the three priority areas of energy, environment and sustainability

5. To transfer knowledge, know-how and experience between EU partners and Eastern neighbouring countries and promote common areas of higher education

The overall  mission of the Erasmus Mundus ELECTRA programme is to develop leading centres of transdisciplinary research and to create a sustainable research hub in the ENPI region.
